Andrew J. Sumnicht, MD

Dr. Andrew Sumnicht is available to see new patients at the Edmonds and Northgate clinics. He is a comprehensive ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon who trained at a busy residency program in Southern California where he gained extensive experience seeing advanced eye disease and uncommon ocular pathologies. A Wisconsin-born native, Dr. Sumnicht completed his college education at Whitworth University in Spokane, WA and completed his medical school and residency training at Loma Linda University in Southern California. He is establishing roots in the beautiful Pacific Northwest due to his love for the area and his wife, who is a native of Renton.

He is passionate about screening for, diagnosing, monitoring, and treating a wide variety of ocular conditions. Some of his particular interests include glaucoma, cataract, diabetic retinopathy, dry eye, vascular occlusions of the eye, and age-related macular degeneration. He will be happy to accept new patients and continue managing care for your eye disease including cataract surgery, injections, and laser treatments. He has experience with a wide variety of surgical techniques for cataract and specializes in placing toric (lens to correct astigmatism) and multifocal ("glasses-free vision") intraocular lenses, along with performing minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) when appropriate.

When not tackling vision loss, Dr. Sumnicht enjoys training for and competing in triathlons, running road races, trying new restaurants, playing board games, doing one of numerous outdoor activities, and spending time with his wife and their families.

Dr. Sumnicht has language proficiency in Spanish and enjoys explaining the disease process and how it can be treated in English or Spanish. He will be working in close conjunction with our optometrists and subspecialists when needed to provide excellent comprehensive care to optimize your ocular health and vision.
