Low Vision & Vision Rehabilitation
Our Madison Ave. Optical site has a variety of low vision optical aids. Whenever someone’s vision is not helped by a medical or surgical intervention, vision rehabilitation can be used, whether the vision is 20/40 or 20/400. Such things as glare and or blurred central vision can be an indication for some assistance.
One part of rehabilitation is the use of an optical aid. Madison Ave Optical has an inventory of hand held magnifiers (illum. & non-illum.), stand magnifiers, high powered readers, telescopic devices, solar shields in various shades for glare and contrast, and even some closed circuit reading instruments. (Special orders can also be placed).
These closed circuit instruments or monitors can be portable or stationary. Our model the Magni-Cam is stationary. It can be connected to your own television set to create your viewing screen. Another stationary type is called the Merlin and the Vision Matters, representative can make home visits to demonstrate the various possibilities to enhance your needs.
Another part of rehabilitation is understanding the process itself. We are fortunate to have in our area two organizations which encompass this process:
